LIKE TO SING? Have a good voice? Like folk music? Consider joining UMBC's Russian Chorus. No knowledge of Russian required (We'll help you with the words).
Russian Chorus (RUSS 300-01) is a 1-2-credit course (P/F only), repeatable for credit. We meet once a week on Mondays and Wednesdays during the campus free hour (1:00-1:50) in Fine Arts 015. Our first meeting is the Monday of the second week of the semester. We have one or two public performances a semester. For more information or permission to register, contact Dr. Steven Young.
Go here for a sample of our music, from an informal performance on March 12, 2010. The songs are "Na gore-to kalina," "Grushitsa," and "Polyushko-polye."
Below are photographs from our December 4, 2004 performance for an enthusiastic audience at the Mercy Ridge retirement community in Timonium. The photos were taken by Maria M. Nestor, mother of chorus member Elizabeth Nestor.
A special thank you to Nicole Bennett of Mercy Ridge for the arrangements.
